Our Story
The Philosophy
Where African artistry meets modern luxury — every thread tells a story of heritage, craft, and intention. We believe in slow elegance, crafted for the global citizen who carries culture close to the heart.
The Founder
Izegbe “Izzi” Bello
Growing up between the vibrant, textured streets of Lagos and the structured minimalist landscapes of London, Izegbe Bello observed fashion as a language of dualities. Her formal training in classical pattern cutting within Paris’s most revered historic ateliers instilled an obsession with form, structure, and drape.
Yet, she felt a profound disconnect between the sterile luxury of European runways and the deeply soul-stirring textile traditions of her youth. In 2021, she returned to West Africa to establish House of Izzi — a label conceived to honor generational African craftsmanship through a modern architectural lens.
“House of Izzi is an ongoing dialogue,” Izegbe notes. “It bridges the technical precision of haute couture with the rich, fluid histories of hand-woven heritage looms. We are not just making garments; we are preserving the human stories bound within the weave.”
“Every garment begins as a conversation between hand and cloth.”
Craftsmanship
An Atelier of Patience
Every collection at House of Izzi is a testament to the beauty of patience. We reject the breakneck cycles of contemporary fashion, choosing instead to align our production with the natural rhythms of artisanal craft. Our textiles are woven by hand on traditional wooden upright looms in regional cooperatives, utilizing techniques that have been passed down through families for centuries.
By treating the textile design as an art form rather than a raw commodity, we allow each weaver’s subtle individual signature to live on in the final silhouette. The natural irregularities are not flaws; they are the physical proof of human hands.
African Inspiration
The Geography of Soul
Our creative impulse is deeply rooted in the structural, chromatic, and symbolic lexicons of the African continent. We draw inspiration from the mesmerizing geometric architecture of traditional Kente patterns, the deep meditative layers of Yoruba indigo Adire resists, and the striking, landscape-informed color palettes of the Maasai.
But our relationship to heritage is one of collaboration, never appropriation. We partner directly with artisan guilds, ensuring sustainable living wages, preserving their intellectual property, and investing back into their local workshop infrastructures. Our designs translate historical cultural forms into modern architectural statements that feel both universal and deeply grounded in place.
